The California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds is a trade association for RV Parks and Campgrounds in California. Its purpose is to support and serve it’s members as they provide a positive RV and camping experience. This purpose is accomplished through member programs, legislative advocacy, educational programs and qualified staff.

History

In the late 1960s, there were a variety of groups of RV park owners who had banded together to form small associations. In the early 1970s, the Western Mobilehome Association formed an RV Park division.

RV park owners soon realized that WMA could not adequately support RV parks' interest and concluded that their interests could best be served by establishing their own association. The founding fathers agreed upon the name - California Travel Parks Association, wrote bylaws and created a logo, and CTPA was born. At the first general convention in 1974, Dave Hodgin was elected president; Dick Crowl, first vice-president; and El Welton second vice-president.

CTPA soon became the leading state association in the RV industry and continues to be a leader with nearly 400 California members.

Over the years it was felt that the term "Travel Parks" did not accurately reflect CTPA's members. In 2007 the association name was changed to the California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds.
